clip of the day: introducing zee avi

Kokokaina's finally out with an album!! She calls herself Zee Avi (no wonder I found Bitter Heart to be so so familiar when I first heard it on the day). Also she's signed onto Brushfire Records now which is Jack Johnson's record company if I'm not wrong... loves her on the ukulele!! Gotta get that album :)

miss tantan's black or white b'day

It all started over a good Italian dinner...

With pleasant company over...

L-R: Miss ChongChong, Miss TanTan <-- b'day girl, moi Shelbulous guest, Guy, Ah Loh, Miss DeDe, Miss ShreeShree

And a fabulous cake (cuppacakes) for that honorary b'day wish to boot...

I wonder what she wished for..?? *wink wink*

I wonder what they're laughing about?

I wonder what she's rolling her eyes at?

I wonder if it's us?

I wonder if it's them?

rando rando...

Just thought I'd put up some random pictures online... I had wanted to go to Giant (yes, we have a hypermarket, opened in April this year.. we are truly metropolitan now over at TI) to get some plastic bags and maybe orange juice but laziness got the better of me and I stayed home wasting the entire afternoon, evening and night away watching girls' Hello Kitty for M.A.C hauls on YouTube.

Sophiekins got this from her loved one on Valentine's Day. Sweet. Come to think of it, Guy has never bought me flowers(!!). Ayo he can be so Ah Pek / Chinaman when it comes to surprises but I'm sure flowers are pretty universal gifts, non? Getting eustomas or hydrangeas would be nice. Oooh mattiolas and peonies too!! Or allium!! OK-lah they're probably too expensive but I'd appreciate even just ONE stalk of any of the aforementioned and he could plump it up with cheapy-cheaps baby's breath or some other form of fillers. OK fine I'll be easy, get me lilies.

Pssst... my favourite florists are Wishing Tree and Rainflorists

Loves Juicy Couture changing room's French boudoir chair. I wish I could stuff it down my bra and bring it home to my room. I mean it's for: Nice Girls Who Likes Stuff! Whoah like holla!!

Ahem it should be 'A Week In The Life of A Shelbulous Drama Queen'. Definitely sounds better!

A close family friendh's son got married and I was included in the angpow line-up even though I wasn't family. I was pretty gobsmacked as I was probably one of the only non-family to get a red packet. Yeayy I'm everybody's family... Congratulations Kenneth and Yuen Ting!

It was the last day of the Guardian-Paddington-Bear-in-exchange-for-stickers day and I was 4 stickers short. It was quite frustrating but I was not prepared, or even willing, to splurge on additional RM200 just to fit the plush toy quota. In return for my financial prudence, people-of-power-up-there *looks up and mouths a thank you* blessed me with this customer in front of me who turned around and handed me stickers 'cos he wasn't gonna use it and he saw my half-filled album! Yippee!!

Out with ex-colleagues.

Since I've got multiple clusters of friends and nobody can make it on a mutual day to celebrate the aging of me it's only natural I get multiple b'day gigs too. I was having drinks with Miss ChongChong when suddenly a parade of Chilli con carnes makes me stand on a chair holding the ketchup bottle and sings me a b'day song. It was pretty mortifying. But all was good once I found that I had someone else to share the burden of shame... tis poor fella got 'surprised' by his gf and since we were both b'day peeps, his chick even gave us a cupcake to share. She's a definite keeper.

At boyfriend's place. Playing with his stuff.

In boyfriend's car. Playing with his accessories.

An additional to the family. Sister's bf saw it and thought it was sooo her. Love the machine guns. Some boyfriends are so romantic-lor.

The girls and I in Langkawi. Seems awhile back hor?

kek lok si

Once in awhile it's my turn to be the visitor rather than be the visitee. Rather than fly over to Alor Setar, I go via Bayan Lepas, Penang instead as it's closer to Kulim (Guy's hometown) so he says. It doesn't really matter to me 'cos I'm not driving.. I'm flying wee!!

Frankly, I've never been to Penang. Oops. Seriously. I've never for the life of me stepped onto Penang shores and had authentic Penang Char Kuey Teow. Wooot. Betul. Weird but true.

I arrived in the afternoon and there wasn't time to do much. Since we intend for my visits to be a monthly and at most bi-monthly affair it has been decided that we would tackle Penang 1 tourist trap by another. First up, none other than the...

Kek Lok Si Temple!!

As we wandered about we found this space amidst the temple that housed prayer candles in the form of lotus flowers. How splendid..!

I'm a big sucker for lucky charms and prayer advocates. Naturally Guy and I shared a candle of hope and wishes.

Umm something is deeply disturbing about my eyebrows. Check out the loads and loadsa Buddha figurines behind me. So zen, non?

*blink blink* Diplopia? Nay... it's just Sir Gustav and Major Gustav resting on G's (Gautama) hands. Yeah apparently Guy's no whiz in the creative department when it comes to making up names.

Did you know Kek Lok Si really means Temple of Supreme Bliss? And did you know there are supposedly 10,000 Buddhas in this place?

After abit of a drive around town (and the fact that I still have not eaten Penang CKT), we headed towards Kulim to meet the 'family'. Inverted commas 'cos they're not my family yet but they're family nonetheless.

Whoah. Pardon the excitement but this is the absolute first time I'm seeing the Penang Bridge for the very first time. Sejarah Book Moment Alert!! It's exactly like how it looks in pictures. That sounds very Elle Woods but it's quite a moment. Takes me back to the time when I celebrated the new year's at Borobudur, Yogyakarta. Another SJB alert that one!

Saying goodbye to the island. I tend to forget it's an island.

Do not ask me why Guy has so much crap hanging from his rear-view mirror. And they're not really even officially sacred. They come from Tesco or something!

The bridge is really quite small. I mean I didn't know 50m can be that short. When I was small I imagined the structure to be gargantuan and mind-blowing. I was very much mistaken.

Guy says they're reconstructing the bridge to make it more Malaysian or whatnot. That just seems silly. We all know The Penang Bridge as how it was constructed and personally, I find it to be quite an icon and symbol of Penangites identity. I don't see San Francisco changing the shade of their bridge purple. What say you Penang people??

We then grabbed dinner with his nieces. They're cuties.

I was so busy working the weekend rounds penalty in Ortho that I didn't have time to get them gifts so I swung by the duty-free shops and got them Smarties swirling princesses. Thank god for duty-free gift shops!! They were quite thrilled 'cos they were just playing with their mother's friend's daugthter's (mouthful!) the day before I got them their own. Cool huh? Oh and check out the Pangkor glow-in-the-dark tracks Guy got them from our Pangkor trip.
So I've yakked and yakked and still have NOT had a good plate of legendary Penang Char Kuey Teow. OK So Penang people do your state proud and recommend!!
